NBA sports announcer Joe Tait was the Voice of the Cavaliers for 39 years, from the team's inception in 1970 until his retirement in 2011. After a bout of pneumonia and subsequent heart surgery in 2010, Tait became a rehabilitation patient at Life Care Centers of America.
Life Care therapists were able to help Tait regain his independence and return home in time to finish announcing the Cavaliers' 2010-2011 season. Tait retired on April 13, 2011, after the Cavaliers defeated the Washington Wizards.
